Blame it on Dalwhinnie, for it was a wee dram of that
delicate, honeysuckled liquor that made Sarah Doyle fall in love with Scotch whisky. The
year was 2003, and she had been ushered to Scotland with a group of journalists
to learn more about the intimidating beverage that only grandpa drank. But
seated there, with a punctured warm pillow of molten chocolate cake in front of
her and a dram of Dalwhinnie in hand, Sarah fell down the rabbit hole. No—not
because she was drunk—but because whisky suddenly made sense. She had finally
arrived home.
Sarah Doyle is a journalist and accidental whisky aficionado
based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Focusing on whisk(e)y, wine, food, and
travel, her writing has appeared in over 50 publications, including the New York Times, the Boston Globe, the Washington
Post, Whisky Advocate, Wine & Spirits, Wine Enthusiast, Bon Appetit, Sunset,
Saveur, Food & Wine, and Robb Report, among others.
A graduate of Bruichladdich’s
Malt Whisky Academy, Sarah moved to the Isle of Islay, Scotland in 2005 after
she felt an immediate kinship with the people, whisky, and magic of the island.
There, her passion for whisky continued to grow, thanks in part to whisky
mystic and master distiller Jim McEwan, whose lyrical passion for whisky has
been one of her greatest influences.
Recently, Sarah was the
runner-up to become Hudson Whiskey’s new brand ambassador through their
highly-publicized campaign, “Making the Cut.” At Hudson Whiskey’s distillery in
New York, Sarah gained a new appreciation for the American version of her
favorite spirit and will always be a cheerleader for their fantastic brand.
Currently, Sarah continues
to write about spirits, wine, food, and travel for major publications while
searching for the perfect whisky brand ambassador role.
